THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IN SPAIN
Haz clic In Catalonia the education for children is compulsory from the ages of 6 to 16. Before compulsory education there is non-compulsory education, kindergarten, for 3 years approximately. After that there is primary education, which means that children have to go to school for 6 years, so from the age of 6 to 12. Then students go to high school for 4 years, compulsory secondary education (E.S.O.), at the end of which they receive a Certificate of Education. If a student doesn’t get the E.S.O. certificate, s/he has to do a PQPI, which is a course that allows you to work or to do vocational training to obtain an academic Certificate and then you can start working. If the student finishes the E.S.O. s/he obtains the compulsory secondary education certificate. And then the student can choose to do vocational training, intermediate level, (Cicles Formatius), or Batxillerat, which is 2 years of specified education. Depending on what you want to study at the university, you have to choose one batxillerat or another. You can choose to do art, science and technology, social science and humanities.
